Our Commitment to Research

Warhurst Family Chiropractic is participating in a global research project to compile standardized data on people to study the impact of vertebral subluxation on human health, and the positive, far-reaching impact on health and wellness for people of all ages. This project will gather standardized data from hundreds of thousands of volunteers for the largest population-based, quality of life wellness study ever conducted by any organization or group in the world.
Warhurst Family Chiropractic is an authorized research site for Research and Clinical Science (RCS) which is a private sector research program. In order to be an authorized site Dr. Craig and Dr. Ryan had to meet Federal requirements, take course work in California, and pass proficiency tests. Both doctors are certified by the National Institute of Health (NIH) in human participant research protections and have obtained Independent Review Board (IRB) approval. RCS requires IRB approval for all clinical investigators, in adherence to guidelines set for by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) covering human subject research. Dr. Craig and Dr. Ryan also have a certification in health outcomes research.

All of our practice members are encouraged to participate in this study as well as non-patient volunteers. Taking part in this research will not change our practice member’s care in any way. It simply entails anonymous self-reporting of current health status via the internet using a scientifically designed questionnaire called the SRQOL. Once this questionnaire is completed, a report will be prepared called the Vitality Wellness Index. The Vitality Wellness Index rating is based on responses from the volunteer to the "Self-Reported Quality of Life" survey and assigns numerical scores to the person's perception of his or her physical and emotional health, stress levels, and enjoyment of life. This report will be presented to each volunteer and will give them a good idea where they rank in the wellness continuum based on their answers to the questionnaire. In conjunction with other chiropractic offices across the globe, this research project will produce a massive amount of data that will be used to unequivocally demonstrate what the effect of chiropractic care is on individuals of all ages as compared to those people not receiving chiropractic care. Based on years of personal experience (as well as our patient’s testimonials available on this website), we know that there are “miracles” produced in chiropractic offices on a daily basis. The problem has been that in many of these “miracle” areas, there has been no scientific pier reviewed proof of it ever happening or even being possible. We are confident that this research project will be a giant step in changing that forever!
The RCS International Scientific Advisory panel is comprised of nationally respected career researchers including 8 PhDs, 2 MDs, 2 DCs, 1EdD, and 1 BSN, RN. These experts will analyze the data, comparing wellness levels of volunteers who have never had chiropractic with those of people under chiropractic care to determine the effect of chiropractic on health. Their findings will be written up in scientific report format and submitted to highly respected medical and chiropractic research journals.
Preliminary research has laid the foundation for this work. In one study, 2,818 respondents in 156 chiropractic offices were surveyed and a strong connection was found between persons receiving chiropractic care and self-reported improvement in health, wellness and overall quality of life. Our office and RCS will continue this critical research and expand into many other important fields of inquiry. We invite you to join us in this quest for the truth for the betterment of your own health future and that of generations to come.
Other Scientific Studies:
- “Symptom-free or primary wellness subjects under chiropractic care demonstrated higher mean serum thiol levels than patients with active disease, and produced some values that were higher than normal wellness values. Serum thiols are primary antioxidants, and serve as a measure of human health status. The test provides a surrogate estimate of DNA repair enzyme activity, which has been shown to correlate with lifespan and aging.” (Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research, 2005)
- “According to medical research, head and neck injuries have long been considered a cause of Multiple Sclerosis… this is the first research to show that correction of those injuries can have a dramatic effect on reversing MS.” – (Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research, 2001)
- “[Elderly] chiropractic users were less likely to have been hospitalized, less likely to have used a nursing home, more likely to report a better health status, more likely to exercise vigorously, and more likely to be mobile in the community. In addition, they were less likely to use prescription drugs.” – (Topics in Clinical Chiropractic, 1996)
- “In a study conducted in Denmark of 316 infants with both colic and some form of spinal disturbance (i.e. limited movement of the back), chiropractic treatment over the course of two weeks resulted in a 94% success rate. In 60% of the infants, the symptoms stopped completely; 34% of infants showed significant improvement.” – (Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, 1989)
- A review of 14 retrospective studies on infertile women revealed that “All of the women in these studies were found to have vertebral subluxations… All of the women became pregnant after their subluxations were detected and corrected.” – (Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research, 2004)
- “… improvement in all patients at three years was about 29% more in those treated by chiropractors than in those treated by the hospitals. The beneficial effect of chiropractic on pain was particularly clear.” – (British Medical Journal, 1995)
- “…patients suffering from back and/or neck complaints experience chiropractic care as an effective means of resolving or ameliorating pain and functional impairments, thus reinforcing previous results showing the benefits of chiropractic treatment for back and neck pain.” – (Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, 1997)
- “…for the management of low-back pain, chiropractic is the most effective treatment, and it should be fully integrated into the government’s health care system.” – (The Manga Report, Ministry of Health of Ontario, 1993)
