Broomfield Chiropractor Explains the Negative Effects of Poor Posture

Many people do not realize that poor posture can have a bad effect on their health. Chiropractors know that poor posture can result in tension headaches (as well as other symptoms).  Chiropractors note that improper sitting, especially in front of the computer, can lead to tightness of the muscles in the neck, back and shoulders.  This muscle tightness in the long run can lead to nerve irritation and spasms that restrict the flow of blood to the head, leading to tension headaches.

Poor posture can also make it more difficult for a person to breathe.  Hunched back, rounder shoulders and an imbalanced spine, contribute to rib cage expansion which constricts the movement of the diaphragm.  This in turn affects the normal breathing process, as the inability of the diaphragm to rise, makes it difficult to draw oxygen during inhalation.

Poor posture can also make a person look older.  People who have good posture appear to be younger and more robust compared to those who have hunched backs.  Poor posture can also result to a person developing unsightly marks like potbelly and double chin.  A person who has good posture also looks taller and slimmer compared to those who have a bad posture.  Good posture also suggests self-confidence.

Poor posture has long been associated with back pain.  Poor posture can cause muscle strain especially in the lower back.  When the spine is not properly aligned due to poor posture, the muscles, ligaments and discs of the back are under constant stress.  Reduced strength of the muscles makes it difficult for a person to keep the spine in its proper alignment.

Poor posture does not only ruin one’s appearance but also has a negative impact on the spine.

Chiropractors remind everyone to practice good posture because of the many benefits it can give to any person, and the chiropractors in Broomfield are all skilled and experienced to help with not only the effects of poor posture but also the correction of it.
